What, me worry!?! Overcoming Anxiety

This is an 11 session program designed to provide skills and strategies for managing chronic worry and generalized anxiety disorder. Sessions include: a general overview, what causes GAD, what maintains it, treatments, identifying negative core beliefs that contribute to anxiety, creating positive beliefs, challenging beliefs, letting go, accepting uncertainty, problem solving, relaxation and mindfulness and self management.

Mindfulness

This is a 15+ session program focusing on mindfulness: a simple way of relating to our experiences, which can have profound impacts on painful, negative experiences we encounter. Focusing on mindfulness includes stopping our minds, paying particular attention, becoming aware of present moment realities, not judging whatever is happening as good or bad, a slow gentle "coming to grips" with who we are, bringing us closer to difficulties without becoming caught up in them, being present to our experiences however distressing or upsetting, and setting in and accepting our current experiences in a relaxed, alert, open-hearted way. This gives us a safe place "platform" from which we can just observe while steadying us and grounding us. Mindfulness also creates a "holding" environment for us to collect our thoughts, feelings and emotions, and helps us to remain detached in a "healthy" way. Mindfulness is simply keeping one's consciousness alive to the present reality, not what you wish was going on and making decisions using our "wise" mind.

Back from the Blues: Coping with Depression

This is a 9 session program based on a cognitive behavioral understanding of depression. Topics covered are behavior strategies, thinking-feeling connection, ABC analysis, unhelpful thinking styles, disputing negative thoughts, creating balanced thought and healthy core beliefs and on going self management.

Improving Your Assertiveness

In this 10 session program attendees will learn to reduce depression, anxiety and improve self esteem by learning to be assertive. Clients will change self defeating thinking and use behavioral experiments to learn how to behave more assertively. Clients will learn that it is their thinking that prevents them from being assertive.
